Cannot shut it down except through system shutdown! Program has stopped and is not responding to system commands!

Not really neutral: this thing is a pain in the neck, self-installed, and not visible on the Add/Remove programs list (in XP). Just find anything pareto. using XP's nice search utility and delete it all, files, directories, and especially pareto_update.exe.
