The first time I came across wscntfy.exe was when I ran a keylogger on my own system - which hides itself by calling itself wscntfy.exe. Specifically this was "Family Keylogger" from spyarsenal.com. But usually wcntfy.exe is just the notifications process for Windows Security Center. If you want to stop the process, its very simple. Just follow the instructions from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/internet/sp2_disablescalerts.mspx --- 1. Click Start and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Security Center. 3. In the Security Center, under Resources, click Change the way Security Center alerts me. 4. In the Alert Settings dialog box, clear the Firewall, Automatic Updates, or Virus Protection check boxes, and then click OK. ----- I have the 3 check-boxes unticked and wsntfy.exe no longer runs on my machine. people get real. this is malware. it tells you lies about how the security on your computer is running. it also causes a lot normally restricted pop-ups to come up. Its so annoying even BitDefender cant get rid of it. It is recognized as a virus. But because of its location theres nothing you can do about it.

wow! according to process manager, it was the most risky thing running. Followed the tonygilbert and cesarean advice ( unchecked the boxes ) and it immediately fell off the process manager list. thank you very much
