I agree with 'Blunder11racer'. On a Recovered HP Compaq Presario C500 with Windows Vista Home Premium, I found 'HP File Based Installer' C:\\System.sav\\fbi\\FBISM.EXE appears to be the cause of an Error that requires the Laptop to ShutDown again and again. I disabled it by starting the Laptop with F8 / in SafeMode, then running start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > System Configuration ( i.e MSCONFIG ) and de-selecting 'HP File Based Installer' under the 'Startup' tab. Then re-start the laptop normally. PS. I think there was also something in the Event Logs about System32\\Drivers\\FBIKB_NT.sys which looks related - but it may a "red-herring".

Just saw the same thing recovering a HP DV6000 laptop - disabling FBISM in startup did the trick.

I have never seen a worse install on a computer with this F500 (opensuse 11.2 Linux, xp pro went fine on this machine. This FBI program has ended this household from ever buying another HP product. Now to search how to disable this program . . .
